Posh Bingo

The two TV adverts shown below were run recently on TV for posh bingo. Although I had seen the one based at a 'SPA' it wasn't until I saw the advert based around "GOLF' that I realised how succesfull the campaign seemed.

Although I had seen the 'SPA' advert a few times, it wasn't until last week when I saw a section of the 'GOLF' themed advert. Without paying to much attention to what the advert was about, in my head I was able to make the connection between the 'talking character' and 'Posh Bingo'.

I think that this is a clever advertising ploy by the agency. I think that the advertising agency can rely on the audience being able to draw a connection between the setup of the 'talking character' and 'Posh Bingo', In a similar way to the connection I drew. I think that this obviously depends on whether the audience have seen the similar adverts before, which is likely as the adverts are part of a series of four which have been run throughout the last few weeks/months.

On the 'Posh Bingo' website viewers are given an option to watch the adverts again. The adverts are described as: "The Posh Ads are going down a treat! If you can't wait to see talking teacakes & sandwiches, gossiping golfbags, or jibber-jabbering designer handbags & dressing gowns, just click play on the Ads below! http://www.poshbingo.co.uk/skin/poshtv.php, 26/6/09. This suggests clear interest in the adverts and by giving people an option to watch the videos again only strengthens the connection that people make between the scenarios and the brand. Having characters established in the adverts allows for humor and a sense of intrigue and having the comical characters is a fun way of attracting attention for the brand.

Below are a couple of images from the other two adverts in the series, one showing a scene set in a shop with 'handbags' as the featured character and the other being scones in a cafe:

Savannah Cider - Website

Savanna. It's Dry but you can drink it!

I stumbled across this website recently whilst doing a mock up for an promotion for a company based in London. I think that this is a great, qwerky website. It has a fresh, interesting look which I think is refreshing for a website. It's nice to see a site thats not overcrowded with too much information. The sites qwerky nature suggests the brand is trying to reach out to a younger clientele, most probably trying to tap into the student sector of the market.

The site itself is interactive, with small elements of animation set up as you rollover different areas. The interesting fun illustrations have these animations integrated within the design, as a way of conveying the information. This is done with the subtle use of animation, which again reflects the clean, crisp nature of the site. This therefore means that we aren't being overfaced with too much content, but they are still able to get what they want across to us.

Elbow - The Stops

This is a music video for Elbows, 'The Stops'. I saw this for the first time last year and have turned back to it many times for inspiration. I love the stop motion animation that is used within this piece, ironic when the video is called 'The Stops'!.

There are lots of elements within this piece which I feel make it work so well, but below are a few images of one of my favorite sections within the video. These images are from a section of the video that shows the song lyrics being written onto the lines of a book. I think the way that the animator has gone about creating this video is just great. It's so clean and crisp and integrated with the rest of the asspects within the video it makes the change between the diferent elements seem seemless.

Another section within the video which I think works really well is the section shown in the image below. The image shows a guitar amp lead moving along the top of the amp. I think that this part of the animation is a great example of how well the use of stop motion animation works within the piece.

Alberto Cerriteño

When I was on Teesha Moores blog yesterday I saw this video by a designer called Alberto Cerriteño.

A lot of the movements within this piece are quite jerky. Generally if this was the case it may look wrong, however with this piece I feel that it's intentional and this type of movement works really well due to the audio that has been used. I think this is a great example of when audio and visual work well together they can give a great dynamic to a piece.

Slumdog Millionairre

Well I finally got around to watching Slumdog Millionnaire yesterday and what a film it was. Who would have thought a game of 'Who wants to be a Millionnaire' could cause so much controversy. Cause an uproar in the legal system in India, whilst on the other side reach the hearts of the people living in the slums and give them hope.

I've wanted to watch this film ever since it came out at the cinemas, but never got the chance to see it, so when my Dad brought the DVD home the other day there wasn't a chance that I wasn't going to watch it asap. One of the main reson that I wanted to watch this film is because I was fortunate enough to visit India a couple of years ago on a college trip to work with children in the slums.

Without giving the story away too much for anyone who hasn't seen it, the film is about a boy from the slums. The boy becomes a contestant on 'Who wants to be a Millionnaire' and when he does extemely well there is doubt as to how he knew all the answers. It is percieved by the shows presenter and the local police that he has cheated and they are intent on uncovering the truth; through whatever means neccessary.

The interegation uses clips from the TV show as a basis for the interogation and we are shown throughout that the reason why he knew the answers was down to diferent incidents he'd experienced throughout his hard childhood. Through the use of flashbacks we are taken on a journey into the characters life and are shown the hardship that he faced.

The thing that I liked so much about the film is the way that Mumbai was portrayed. It was shown in a very realistic way and for me it brought back the experience of my trip to India. It promted me to have a look back through some of the photographs from my trip and I think that some of them closely remsemble some of the asspects that were shown within the setting of the film.

Here are a few of my photos:

I loved the way that the basis of the TV show acted as a way to the hold together the storyline and with interesting techniques such as flashback and raw emotion it is definately one of the best films I have seen in a long time. Definately a must see!

Teesha Moore

"I NEED to make art. It relaxes me and energizes me at the same time", Teesha Moore.

Teesha Moore is a journal artist that I have looked at a little in the past. When looking at the work by NCC yesterday it reminded me in parts of some of the work that she creates. She uses lots of different types of media and creates aewsome designs.

I've just been looking on her blog and some of her new journal pages are just amazing. I really like the way that she integrates photography and found ephemra into her work.

Neasden Control Centre

Well as this is my first post it was only right that I start with this group of designers. I can safely say that they are currently my favourite designers and have been for a few years now.

Neasden Control Centre, (NCC) is a design company set up in 2000 by Stephen Smith. Their work ranges from hand drawn work, photographic compositions, through to 3D installation work and Moving Image.

NCC have published a few books now and last year I bought their 'Lost Control' book. Here are a few examples of some of the pages that appeared within it.

The reason why I like their work so much is because of the way that they are able to mix lots of different types of media and approaches. For example they way that they integrate photography with drawing, graphic design and elements of illustration. Some of their work reminds me of sketchbook work and I think that this is what makes deigns seem very organic and personal.

One thing that they also do is create animations from their work. I think the reason why these animations seem to work so well is because they have that 'hand crafted' feel about them.

This is an example of the title sequence that NCC did for the TV show 'Dirty Sanchez'.
